Factor Structure of the KWIS
Park Sang-Gyu

Abstract
Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(KWIS) subtests, as administered to 52 normals, 52 non-schizophrenic psychiatric patients and 52 schizophrenics were factor analyzed The groups were comparable in terms of age and education level.
A principal component analysis followed by Varimax rotation provided evidence for the existence of three factors underlying the KWIS(l.e., Verbl Comprehension, Perceptual Organization and Memory/Freedom from Distractibility) that were consistent
with
past findings on the KWIS, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence ScaleRevised (WAIS-R).
Additional factor analysis was performed fo5 the three groups separately. Components of factors were compared and congruence coefficients were computed to determine degree of association between factor structures from all three groups. Components
of
factors and coefficients of congruence indicated a high degree of similarity on Verbal Comprehension but not on Perceptual Organization and Memory/Freedom from Distractibility. Comparisons of factor scores obtained from total group factor
analysis
also
showed significant difference between groups on Perceptual Organization and Memory/Freedom from Distrati-bility.
Present study provided evidence of generally equivalent but specifically different intellectual functioning across diagnostically different group. Further studies are needed to clarify the effect of various diagnostic group variables on patterns
of
intelligence.
